The Vauxhall Ampera costs £28,995 - even after the taxpayer chips in £5k
Sensibly, Vauxhall has chosen to reveal the price of the range-extender Vauxhall Ampera on the day it was included on the list of cars eligible for the £5,000 taxpayer subsidy for plug-in cars. Vauxhall will be getting £33,995 for every Ampera they shift, although the buyer will pay £28,995 thanks to the taxpayer subsidy. Which, whether you pick the subsidised price or the actual price, is an awful lot of money.
Hyundai Veloster caught out testing
The Hyundai Coupe has always fought well above its weight. It was the first sign from Hyundai that they could take on the best from Japan and come out fighting. But the Hyundai Coupe is nearing the end of its life and will be replaced in 2011 by a new car based on the Hyundai Veloster Concept, first seen at the Seoul Motor Show in 2007.

The latest round of Euro NCAP results are announced today, with another round of high scores from a range of superminis and family cars. But none of the cars tested could manage more than three stars for pedestrian protection. Daihatsu's Materia supermini and, surprisingly, the Honda Civic trailed the pack with only four stars for occupant safety, but the Merc C-class, Renault Laguna, Volvo V70 and – impressively – the tiny Mazda 2 all came out with the top score.
